May this be my first wine review of many on my gastronomic european holiday!
So I saw this bottle at Nicolas in Brussels and was intrigued by the Superieur label next to Bordeaux. Thinking anything marked Superieur should definitely taste better than the average fare (and with further confirmation from the wine merchant that this was a good choice), I grabbed this bottle for €8 and went on my merry way.
Yes, €8 for a Bordeaux. Correction, a Bordeaux Superieur.
A what? Exactly what I thought. Superieur Bordeaux’s are from the same varieties as Bordeaux AOC wines (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot – sometimes with Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot), but picked on selected plots of older vines. They are generally more concentrated, complex and powerful than most Bordeaux wines and aged for 3 to 4 years. My kind of stuff!

View: Ruby Red
Nose: Classically woody (cedar wood) and blackcurrant
Taste: Lovely velvet texture, roasted fruit and tannins smooth.
This wine is absolutely faultless for the price. Quite full bodied and would nicely pair with red meat (I say this as I tuck into my Jamon Iberico). What a steal; I feel like I should be arrested for drinking a wine of this stature this cheap.
